Every single fall/winter/spring, my family and I get the flu. Or at least a really bad cold. I posted an article back in September about natural ways to fight the flu. I am very happy to report that so far, my family and I have been very healthy this flu season. This is very rare for us as we are one of those families that catches everything. And I mean everything!
I wanted to let you know what we have been doing to stay healthy. (I am also hoping that I don’t jinx us by writing this now versus after flu season!).
We have been faithfully taking elderberry syrup. This stuff is amazing! If I ever feel that little tickle in my throat that is a precursor to a sore throat, I immediately take a shot of elderberry syrup.
We have also been taking Vitamin D3 every day. I take Country Life Vitamin D3, 5000 ius a day and my kids take Nature’s Plus Animal Parade Vitamin D3, 500 ius a day. I buy both from Vitacost since they are much cheaper than other places.
The other thing I have added to my flu-fighting arsenal is coconut oil. I have been taking it for a couple weeks now and so far, so good. I take about two teaspoons a day mixed in with hot water. I know it sounds kind of gross but you get used to it.
Another way to fight those nasty flu germs is to wash your hands often. Just use a non-chemical soap (we use Mrs. Myer’s Basil scent). You do not need soaps with nasty chemicals or anti-bacterial qualities. The anti-bac soaps have been proven to wash away all of the bacteria, good and bad, on your hands and leave your pores open for bad bacteria to seep in and take over.
Please also remember to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze (preferably into your elbow so you don’t get the germs all over your hand).
Drink lots and lots of water as well. Studies show that if you keep your body hydrated, it can fight off those mean germs much better!
The last thing we do on a consistent basis is drink our green smoothies. This seems to really help ward off sickness plus helps keep our digestion on track.
Please let me know if you have found natural ways to stay healthy this flu season. I would love to hear from you!
