Sciatic Nerve Pain Relief

Have you ever had sciatic nerve pain?  It is very painful and is a constant, throbbing pain.  My sciatic nerve pain has been rearing its ugly head for the past four days.  It has been so bad that it has waken me up in the middle of the night with sharp, shooting pains in my low back, right hip and going down my right leg.

I wrote about, “How to Alleviate Sciatic Nerve Pain Naturally,” back in February.  I gave some good pointers on chiropractic adjustments and exercises I learned at physical therapy to help alleviate sciatic nerve pain.

A few days ago, I had to go to this article to remember what exercises to do for sciatic pain.  But, I also needed something else to help me cope with the excruciating pain.

One of my readers (also a cousin) had left me a comment on my other article about sciatic pain.  She suggested that I try 1 teaspoon of  Tumeric combined with 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper in a shot glass of milk, drink it down and wait for half an hour for it to work.

When I was awakened the other night by the sciatic pain, I thought I would give this concoction a whirl.  I put 1 teaspoon of Tumeric and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper in a juice glass because I was tired and got the amounts incorrect.  I poured in a little bit of almond milk, stirred the two spices and drank it down.

About 30 minutes later, the sciatic nerve pain was completely gone!  What a huge relief I felt!  I was able to get back to sleep and sleep through the rest of the night.

I used this mixture, 1 teaspoon Tumeric, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper and almond milk, for about four days in a row with great results each time.  I could usually get through 6 to 7 hours with no pain after taking this.

I sure hope this can help you, too!  I know first hand how painful sciatica can be.

It’s all about the journey…

  1. Thank you for this recipe for the horrible, constant, burning pain from sciatic. I was in a car accident over 12 yrs ago and my back has never been the same. Getting worse! Had to recently go on anti inflam meds and muscle relaxers. And recently I just had an MRI. Waiting for results..

    • Hi Deb! You are so welcome!! I drink that recipe whenever my sciatica is acting up and within 20 minutes feel so much relief. I really hope you find some relief with it.

    • Hi Erica! I am using about 4 ounces of milk, not too much at all. I use a small juice glass and don’t fill it up with almond milk, about 2/3 full I’d say.

    • Hi Lillie! It does not taste great but the relief it gives far surpasses the two seconds of a bad taste. Let me know how it works for you! 🙂

  3. Thanks for the info. I have sciatica and need some relief! I don’t want to go to Dr. Its so expensive and I’ve know people who had it worse after back treatments. I can’t wait to try this formula.

  4. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. I have suffered form sciatic pain for about 3 years and was even medically retired form the Navy for this and related ailments. I absolutely hate taking medications so I try not to. there are some days that the pain is so awful that it makes me sick to my stomach and I am unable to function at all. Today, is one of those days, and that is what led me to do some research on how to alleviate the pain. I will definitely be trying this! thank you again.

    • Hi Josie! I would imagine that cashew milk would work just as well. We just use almond milk the most so that is why I make the recipe with it. 🙂

    • I take it twice a day but I’m sure you could take it more often. I would do some research to make sure that tumeric does not interact with anything you may be on. Just to be on the safe side. 🙂

  5. Also. Do you have other recommendations for pain relief. My pain has been lingering for over 2 weeks which is unusual. And when it goes away it comes back. I’ve noticed stretching make its worse sometimes

  6. I am am avid runner with a half marathon coming up and pinched my sciatic nerve shoveling 2 weeks ago. It’s my first time with any back/nerve incident.
