Essential Oils

Have you ever used essential oils?  I was first introduced to them years ago when I first started getting therapeutic massages.  Then, in 2002, I attended Massage Therapy school at Irene’s Myomassology and was further intrigued by these oils and their healing abilities.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, an essential oil is “any of a large class of volatile odoriferous oils of vegetable origin that give plants their characteristic odors and often other properties, that are obtained from various parts of the plants (as flowers, leaves, or bark) by steam distillation, expression, or extraction, that are usually mixtures of compounds (as aldehydes or esters), and that are used often in the form of essences in perfumes, flavorings, and pharmaceutical preparations.”

According to Wikipedia, “Essential oils have been used medicinally and therapeutically in history. Medical applications proposed by those who sell medicinal oils range from skin treatments to remedies for cancer and often are based solely on historical accounts of use of essential oils for these purposes.”

There has been a revival and new discovery of essential oil health applications and it now seems like more people are talking about and using essential oils.

I have been using essential oils on a regular basis since attending Massage Therapy school.  I use peppermint oil all the time for headaches and stomachaches,  lavender oil for calming and cuts, and tea tree oil as a preventative for getting lice.  For years now, I have been searching for high quality essential oils.  I know with essential oils, you get what you pay for.  If you buy a cheap bottle of oil, chances are the quality is also very cheap.

For the past few years, I have been thinking about essential oils a lot and researching brands on and off. I really want to start implementing essential oils into our everyday lives here in our household.  I feel like we have done a great job so far with cleaning up our diet by really focusing on eating a lot of veggies, green smoothies, getting all of the processed, chemical-filled food out of the house, drinking ionized water, getting all chemical-filled cleaners and candles out of the house, not eating a lot of meat anymore, taking different homeopathic supplements as a preventative and instead of prescription drugs and keeping communication about all of these changes open at all times.

But, I keep feeling like a component of our healing is missing.  I truly feel that this component is the use of essential oils on a regular basis.  I know there is an essential oil to heal pretty much every single ailment and/or disease.

Did you know that there are synthetic essential oils in pharmaceuticals?  Why not just go for the real deal and use essential oils that have not been altered so you do not have any of the awful side effects that prescription drugs can cause?

I was asked about a year ago to be a representative for an essential oils company.  I attended one of their meetings to learn more about the oils.  I will say, the oils seemed of very high quality but I did not like the “salesey” way they tried to get me to buy oils.  I like essential oils a lot so don’t need to be convinced to buy them.  I left the meeting without purchasing any oils but did not stop thinking about what brand of oils would be best for my family and I.

After that meeting, I have continued my search for a good brand of essential oils.  I have scoured the Internet to learn about different brands, read so many reviews about this and that oil, gone to health food stores to smell different types and have purchased different types to try.  I would really like to use the oils both topically and internally, if possible.

About three weeks ago, my cousin sent me a Facebook message letting me know that she started using essential oils.  She wanted to let me know because she knows that I love to learn about healing through holistic ways and thought maybe I would be interested in oils, too.  I let her know that I am on the search for good oils and would keep the brand that she is using in mind.

Then, another cousin let me know she is also using the same brand of oils and having great success.  The more I learn about what these oils are doing for both of my cousins, the more intrigued I become.

As you know, I suffer from asthma and allergies, food and seasonal, as does my husband and kids.  I have terrible pain at times from my sciatic nerve and also suffer from PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder). I finally decided to buy a kit to try different essential oils along with a diffuser to see if we can continue our healing journey.

Here are some of the ways the Young Living Essential Oils that I ordered can help heal:

My Young Living Essential Oils will be here this week and I can’t wait to get started with them.  I know the quality of these oils is bar none and the other thing I really appreciated was that I was not pressured at all to buy the oils and diffuser.  I did not feel like I walked into a used car dealership and was being “sold” on something at all.  I first read a lot of testimonials about what the Young Living Essential Oils have done for others and then made my decision that we needed to try these oils to see what they can do for us.  What I am very quickly learning is that no matter what type of condition you have, “there’s an oil for that,” is a common saying in regards to Young Living Essential Oils.

I will keep you posted about our journey with these oils and will post our personal testimonials.

It’s all about the journey…
